ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮ੝ਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
Man sĝcẖĝ mukẖ sĝcẖĝ so▫e.
The True One is on his mind, and the True One is upon his lips.
ਅਵਰ੝ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਝਕਸ੝ ਬਿਨ੝ ਕੋਇ ॥
Avar na pekẖai ekas bin ko▫e.
He sees only the One.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਲਛਣ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī saḝĝ nirlep.
The God-conscious being is always unattached,
ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲ ਅਲੇਪ ॥
Jaise jal mėh kamal alep.
as the lotus in the water remains detached.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਦੋਖ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī saḝĝ nirḝokẖ.
The God-conscious being is always unstained,
ਜੈਸੇ ਸੂਰ੝ ਸਰਬ ਕਉ ਸੋਖ ॥
Jaise sūr sarab ka▫o sokẖ.
like the sun, which gives its comfort and warmth to all.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਦ੝ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai ḝarisat samĝn.
The God-conscious being looks upon all alike,
ਜੈਸੇ ਰਾਜ ਰੰਕ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਤ੝ਲਿ ਪਵਾਨ ॥
Jaise rĝj rank ka▫o lĝgai ṯul pavĝn.
like the wind, which blows equally upon the king and the poor beggar.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਧੀਰਜ੝ ਝਕ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai ḝẖīraj ek.
The God-conscious being has a steady patience,
ਜਿਉ ਬਸ੝ਧਾ ਕੋਊ ਖੋਦੈ ਕੋਊ ਚੰਦਨ ਲੇਪ ॥
Ji▫o basuḝẖĝ ko▫ū kẖoḝai ko▫ū cẖanḝan lep.
like the earth, which is dug up by one, and anointed with sandal paste by another.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਇਹੈ ਗ੝ਨਾਉ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ ihai gunĝ▫o.
This is the quality of the God-conscious being:
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਕਾ ਸਹਜ ਸ੝ਭਾਉ ॥੧॥
Nĝnak ji▫o pĝvak kĝ sahj subẖĝ▫o. ((1))
O Nanak, his inherent nature is like a warming fire. ((1))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī nirmal ṯe nirmalĝ.
The God-conscious being is the purest of the pure;
ਜੈਸੇ ਮੈਲ੝ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਲਾ ॥
Jaise mail na lĝgai jalĝ.
filth does not stick to water.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੝ਰਗਾਸ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai man ho▫e pargĝs.
The God-conscious being’s mind is enlightened,
ਜੈਸੇ ਧਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਕਾਸ੝ ॥
Jaise ḝẖar ūpar ĝkĝs.
like the sky above the earth.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਮਿਤ੝ਰ ਸਤ੝ਰ੝ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai miṯar saṯar samĝn.
To the God-conscious being, friend and foe are the same.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai nĝhī abẖimĝn.
The God-conscious being has no egotistical pride.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਊਚ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ūcẖ ṯe ūcẖĝ.
The God-conscious being is the highest of the high.
ਮਨਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਨੀਚਾ ॥
Man apnai hai sabẖ ṯe nīcẖĝ.
Within his own mind, he is the most humble of all.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਭਝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī se jan bẖa▫e.
They alone become God-conscious beings,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਪ੝ਰਭ੝ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
Nĝnak jin parabẖ ĝp kare▫i. ((2))
O Nanak, whom God Himself makes so. ((2))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī sagal kī rīnĝ.
The God-conscious being is the dust of all.
ਆਤਮ ਰਸ੝ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਚੀਨਾ ॥
Āṯam ras barahm gi▫ĝnī cẖīnĝ.
The God-conscious being knows the nature of the soul.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī sabẖ ūpar ma▫i▫ĝ.
The God-conscious being shows kindness to all.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤੇ ਕਛ੝ ਬ੝ਰਾ ਨ ਭਇਆ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ṯe kacẖẖ burĝ na bẖa▫i▫ĝ.
No evil comes from the God-conscious being.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī saḝĝ samaḝrasī.
The God-conscious being is always impartial.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਦ੝ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅੰਮ੝ਰਿਤ੝ ਬਰਸੀ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī ḝarisat amriṯ barsī.
Nectar rains down from the glance of the God-conscious being.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮ੝ਕਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī banḝẖan ṯe mukṯĝ.
The God-conscious being is free from entanglements.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜ੝ਗਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī nirmal jugṯĝ.
The lifestyle of the God-conscious being is spotlessly pure.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਭੋਜਨ੝ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ bẖojan gi▫ĝn.
Spiritual wisdom is the food of the God-conscious being.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਧਿਆਨ੝ ॥੩॥
Nĝnak barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ barahm ḝẖi▫ĝn. ((3))
O Nanak, the God-conscious being is absorbed in God’s meditation. ((3))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਝਕ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਸ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ek ūpar ĝs.
The God-conscious being centers his hopes on the One alone.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ nahī binĝs.
The God-conscious being shall never perish.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai garībī samĝhĝ.
The God-conscious being is steeped in humility.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਉਮਾਹਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī par▫upkĝr omĝhĝ.
The God-conscious being delights in doing good to others.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਧੰਧਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai nĝhī ḝẖanḝẖĝ.
The God-conscious being has no worldly entanglements.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਲੇ ਧਾਵਤ੝ ਬੰਧਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī le ḝẖĝvaṯ banḝẖĝ.
The God-conscious being holds his wandering mind under control.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਸ੝ ਭਲਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai ho▫e so bẖalĝ.
The God-conscious being acts in the common good.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸ੝ਫਲ ਫਲਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī sufal falĝ.
The God-conscious being blossoms in fruitfulness.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī sang sagal uḝẖĝr.
In the Company of the God-conscious being, all are saved.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਪੈ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ੝ ॥੪॥
Nĝnak barahm gi▫ĝnī japai sagal sansĝr. ((4))
O Nanak, through the God-conscious being, the whole world meditates on God. ((4))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਝਕੈ ਰੰਗ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai ekai rang.
The God-conscious being loves the One Lord alone.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਬਸੈ ਪ੝ਰਭ੝ ਸੰਗ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai basai parabẖ sang.
The God-conscious being dwells with God.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਨਾਮ੝ ਆਧਾਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai nĝm ĝḝẖĝr.
The God-conscious being takes the Naam as his Support.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਨਾਮ੝ ਪਰਵਾਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai nĝm parvĝr.
The God-conscious being has the Naam as his Family.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਜਾਗਤ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī saḝĝ saḝ jĝgaṯ.
The God-conscious being is awake and aware, forever and ever.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਹੰਬ੝ਧਿ ਤਿਆਗਤ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ahaʼn▫buḝẖ ṯi▫ĝgaṯ.
The God-conscious being renounces his proud ego.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai man parmĝnanḝ.
In the mind of the God-conscious being, there is supreme bliss.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai gẖar saḝĝ anand.
In the home of the God-conscious being, there is everlasting bliss.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸ੝ਖ ਸਹਜ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī sukẖ sahj nivĝs.
The God-conscious being dwells in peaceful ease.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥੫॥
Nĝnak barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ nahī binĝs. ((5))
O Nanak, the God-conscious being shall never perish. ((5))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਬੇਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī barahm kĝ beṯĝ.
The God-conscious being knows God.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਝਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ek sang heṯĝ.
The God-conscious being is in love with the One alone.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਅਚਿੰਤ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai ho▫e acẖinṯ.
The God-conscious being is carefree.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ nirmal manṯ.
Pure are the Teachings of the God-conscious being.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿਸ੝ ਕਰੈ ਪ੝ਰਭ੝ ਆਪਿ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī jis karai parabẖ ĝp.
The God-conscious being is made so by God Himself.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਬਡ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ bad parṯĝp.
The God-conscious being is gloriously great.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਦਰਸ੝ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ ḝaras badbẖĝgī pĝ▫ī▫ai.
The Darshan, the Blessed Vision of the God-conscious being, is obtained by great good fortune.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ka▫o bal bal jĝ▫ī▫ai.
To the God-conscious being, I make my life a sacrifice.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਮਹੇਸ੝ਰ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ka▫o kẖojėh mahesur.
The God-conscious being is sought by the great god Shiva.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ੝ਰ ॥੬॥
Nĝnak barahm gi▫ĝnī ĝp parmesur. ((6))
O Nanak, the God-conscious being is Himself the Supreme Lord God. ((6))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī kīmaṯ nĝhi.
The God-conscious being cannot be appraised.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਸਗਲ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kai sagal man mĝhi.
The God-conscious being has all within his mind.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਕਉਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਭੇਦ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ ka▫un jĝnai bẖeḝ.
Who can know the mystery of the God-conscious being?
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ka▫o saḝĝ aḝes.
Forever bow to the God-conscious being.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਕਥਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਧਾਖ੝ਯ੝ਯਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ kathi▫ĝ na jĝ▫e aḝẖĝkẖ▫yar.
The God-conscious being cannot be described in words.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਾ ਠਾਕ੝ਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī sarab kĝ ṯẖĝkur.
The God-conscious being is the Lord and Master of all.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਉਨ੝ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī miṯ ka▫un bakẖĝnai.
Who can describe the limits of the God-conscious being?
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī gaṯ barahm gi▫ĝnī jĝnai.
Only the God-conscious being can know the state of the God-conscious being.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਅੰਤ੝ ਨ ਪਾਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ anṯ na pĝr.
The God-conscious being has no end or limitation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ੝ ॥੭॥
Nĝnak barahm gi▫ĝnī ka▫o saḝĝ namaskĝr. ((7))
O Nanak, to the God-conscious being, bow forever in reverence. ((7))
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਭ ਸ੝ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī sabẖ sarisat kĝ karṯĝ.
The God-conscious being is the Creator of all the world.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī saḝ jīvai nahī marṯĝ.
The God-conscious being lives forever, and does not die.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮ੝ਕਤਿ ਜ੝ਗਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī mukaṯ jugaṯ jī▫a kĝ ḝĝṯĝ.
The God-conscious being is the Giver of the way of liberation of the soul.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੝ਰਖ੝ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī pūran purakẖ biḝẖĝṯĝ.
The God-conscious being is the Perfect Supreme Being, who orchestrates all.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਨਾਥ ਕਾ ਨਾਥ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī anĝth kĝ nĝth.
The God-conscious being is the helper of the helpless.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹਾਥ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ sabẖ ūpar hĝth.
The God-conscious being extends his hand to all.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਅਕਾਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kĝ sagal akĝr.
The God-conscious being owns the entire creation.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ੝ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī ĝp nirankĝr.
The God-conscious being is himself the Formless Lord.
ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬਨੀ ॥
Barahm gi▫ĝnī kī sobẖĝ barahm gi▫ĝnī banī.
The glory of the God-conscious being belongs to the God-conscious being alone.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ॥੮॥੮॥
Nĝnak barahm gi▫ĝnī sarab kĝ ḝẖanī. ((8)(8))
O Nanak, the God-conscious being is the Lord of all. ((8)(8))
