Dubdha (Duality)

Duality – “Dubida”
“Gurmat” is firmly non-dual in its worldview. Nondualism in terms of psychology refers to unified Consciousness, primordial, natural awareness without subject or object duality, known as”Turiya”.

Every form including compounds, molecules, atoms, right down to sub- atomic particles and beyond is vibrating. This vibration is found in all manifestation and is the single sound “Ong” (“Aum” or “Om”), the sacred source of all existence.

In human experience, the first and foremost duality is that of the subject and object, everything contains this duality: the seer and the seen, no hearing without the hearer, and so on. Both subject and object serve as the ground for each other, without object there is no subject, and without subject there can be no object. As the Mind is conditioned to identify with its psychophysical or Mind/body as an entity, it separates and creates its sense of self or “Haumai”.

This is a shift of our perception from unselfconsciousness into a self-conscious separate individuality, bound in the duality of subject and object. “Gurmat” teaches the integration of duality, as it is the One non-dual Consciousness, which manifests itself as a dual, contrasting manifestation of opposites. This world described in opposites creates a sense of insecurity which catalyses the formation of attachments in order to provide a sense of security.
Duality as”Shiv” and “Shakti” is the very play of existence. The creative dynamic of”Kudrat” (nature/ existence) is the fundamental vibration, changing its form and shape eternally. Existence manifests itself as a fractal, creating itself, from itself. “Ik Ongkaar” or Oneness consists of that which is formless, masculine, passive, transcendent and an eternal principle is”Shiv”, and the manifesting feminine form, active, immanent and temporal principle is”Shakti”.

It is essential for unification and non-dual experience to cultivate one’s sense of separated self;through its development one progresses through one’s own individuality, temporary existence and vulnerability through “Naam Symran” to arrive at a sense of wholeness and unity, “Mool Roop”, essential or root form.
First, I renounced my egotistical love of myself.
Second, I renounced the ways of the world.
Renouncing the three qualities, I look alike upon friend and enemy.
And then, the fourth state of non-duality was revealed to me by the Holy One. ||2||

Through “Symran” (right Mindfulness awareness of Experience in the present moment), awareness progressively matures and the sense of duality is shed, giving rise to the non dual experience of pure Consciousness or “Naam”.
“Symran” practice enables one to access ever deepening experiential insights, one of which facilitates clarity and equanimity. This changes our perception of the manifesting world and life experience beyond duality towards the realisation of interconnectedness, interdependence and singularity.
