ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਇਆ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ॥
Pahilai pahrai raiṇ kai vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā hukam pa▫i▫ā garbẖās.
In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, you were cast into the womb through Divine unfolding (Hukam)

ਉਰਧ ਤਪੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਖਸਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
Uraḏẖ ṯap anṯar kare vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā kẖasam seṯī arḏās.
Upside-down, within the womb, you performed penance, O my merchant friend, and you prayed to your Lord and Master.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਗਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਿਆ ॥
Har har nām jape ārāḏẖe vicẖ agnī har jap jīvi▫ā.
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and meditating on it within the fire of the womb, your life is sustained by dwelling on the Naam.

ਰੇ ਨਰ ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਜਬ ਆਛਤ ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
Re nar garabẖ kundal jab ācẖẖaṯ uraḏẖ ḏẖi▫ān liv lāgā.
O man, when you were coiled in the cradle of the womb, upside-down, you were absorbed in meditation.

ਗਰਭ ਛੋਡਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਆਇਆ ਤਉ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
Garabẖ cẖẖod miṯar mandal āiā ṯao narhar manhu bisāriā. ||1||
Leaving the womb, you entered this mortal world; you have forgotten the Lord from your mind. ||1||
ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿੰਬ ਜਲ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਨਿਪਜੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਕੰਮਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
Agan bimb jal bẖīṯar nipje kāhe kamm upāe. ||1||
We are formed from the fire of the womb within, and the bubble of water of the sperm. For what purpose are we created? ||1||

Ėū jīa bahuṯ garabẖ vāse.
This embodied-conssiousness has lived in many wombs.

Asthāvar jangam kīt paṯangā.
The mobile and immobile creatures, insects and moths –
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
Anik janam kīe baho rangā. ||1||
in numerous lifetimes, I have passed through those many forms. ||1||
ਐਸੇ ਘਰ ਹਮ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਸਾਏ ॥
Aise gẖar ham bahuṯ basā▫e.
I lived in many such homes, O Lord,
ਜਬ ਹਮ ਰਾਮ ਗਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਆਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Jab ham rām garabẖ hoe āe. ||1|| rahā▫o.
